Aquaponic Post #6
You learned in the Dissolved Oxygen and Primary Productivity Lab that . “Measuring Net Productivity: Remember net productivity is the amount of sugars and dissolved oxygen produced by the plants in an ecosystem once you subtract out what the producers have consumed in respiration.” Label net productivity in your aquaponics set up.
Key for chart color-
Red-CONTROLL, Purple- EXPERIMENTAL

Key for chart color-
Red-CONTROLL, Purple- EXPERIMENTAL
Weekly Observations:
- 1/09/2018- Both systems had ideal levels with the exception of the ammonia levels which were both 1.0 mg/L. Water was clear- No fish has yet been added. May be due to water clarity of the tap water.
- 1/12/2018- Slight decrease in pH; 7.5 to 7.0 mg/L. Slight increase in Nitrite level by .5, but still ideal for fresh water. The ammonia levels decreased by .5 and are safe. Tank appears clear Tilapia Fingerlings are alive. No sign of plant growth
- 1/16/2018- Slight increase in pH; in the experimental an increase of .5 and in control an increase of 1. Both systems had a nitrate increase of 20 mg/L and a .5mg/L nitrite increase. There was no change in the other properties. Experimental system water is a translucent brown and the tilapia is still alive.
- 1/22/2018- The ammonia level of the experimental is questionable. It test neither in the "safe" level or "stress" levels. However, the control fish tank experimented ammonia level decreased by .5 mg/L and now are ideal. For pH level, the control decreased by .5 and the experimental from 7.5 to 8.0. The changes in the ammonia levels and in pH levels in the experimental may be due to the addition of the dark cocoa powder into the water.
